Short-timer President Tom George threw us a curveball when he flip-flopped the meeting agenda on Mayday.  Our Speaker, Ron Banner, asked if he could deliver the program first and then hold the business meeting of the Lakewood Rotary starting at 1:00 p.m.  The scribe’s stomach was flip-flopping, due to the added stress of having to listen closely to the program right off the bat.  But here on Sunday, I am sitting with my flip-flops on and writing a relaxed but upside-down bulletin.  I thought about writing all the words upside down and backwards but decided that would not be good for circulation.  Both mine and yours.

President Tom reported that May is Youth Services Month for Rotary International.  RI focuses on powerful investments in our youth, Tom said.   We got started with a Rotary Moment from Clint Johnson and after David Swindale led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag, Tom turned the meeting over to Ron, who had to leave early. (Busy guy.)  Clint’s Rotary Moment was right on as he noted all the different connotations of Mayday or May 1st, including the emergency call for help mentioned above.  He said Mayday was the frequent occasion for the Soviet Union’s annual parade, complete with tanks, missiles and troops marching.  He may (get it?) have even talked about Maypoles, but I digress.
