WEARING WHITE, BLUE AND YELLOW, UKULELE SWEEPSTAKES

Fashionistas are people you may see in downtown Parkland but not downtown Lakewood. They are impeccably dressed. They go about their days influencing. They avidly work with the latest fashion trends. I saw one once, or at least I thought I did. It may have been a male Hummingbird. Fashionistas are generally larger than hummingbirds. And peacocks. They never wear white before Memorial Day.
At Friday’s Lakewood Rotary Club meeting, many folks wore blue and yellow attire. Swedish fashionistas celebrated that scene knowing the club’s passion for all things Swedish. Blue and yellow are the national colors of Sweden and adorn the Swedish flag. Being Friday the 16th of May, it was 2 weeks shy of wearing white. That means when President Tom has just a couple of meetings left, it is okay to wear matching white shoes and handbags. For you guys, like Donnnn, who love showing a little “beach bod,” a gauzy white linen shirt is perfect. In the back of your closet, you have a pair of white patent leather shoes. Pair those shoes with that white patent leather belt you still own. And finally, if you once banked with Jim Bisceglia, or bought a car from Leon Titus, you probably have a white tie. That would look swell with those shoes and belt.
President Tom neglected to announce that the winner of The Great Ukulele Sweepstakes was Co-Publisher Paula. The outcome was never in doubt as Paula was the only entrant in the contest. Her winning essay was succinct but powerful. In keeping with her role as Co-Editor -in-chief and Co-Publisher of the Bulletin, she employed the advice of Strunk and White, “Make each word count!” Her essay, and I quote, “Is a Ukulele really a musical instrument?” In awarding the prize, a mahogany concert Uke from Ted Brown Music, Bulletin Reporter Ole directed Paula to: “Google TED Lecture by Jake Shimabukuro and listen to his Uke solo of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.” Back to Stories List
