Tom’s Last Stand, or How I Spent A Year at the Podium And Survived
Greg Rediske
You know bulletin writers Wendy McGowan, frequent highlighter of Lakewood Rotary history, and Donn Irwin, dedicated to teaching one and all the history of the world, Friday by Friday.
Today, we will combine these two perspectives. For Donn: today is the 150th anniversary of the infamous Battle of the Little Big Horn, also known as Custer’s Last Stand. Well, today is Tom’s Last Stand. For Wendy: Which Lakewood Rotary presidents also had their “last stand” on the anniversary of Custer’s little mistake? Gilbert Richards (1959), Howard Haley (1964), Russ Klauser (1970), Auggie Meier (1981), Bob Lordahl (1987), Dennis Shade (1992), Joe Quinn (1998), Joel Feldman (2009), Dave Coleman (2015), Bill Potter (2020), and of course, the man whose last stand is on the 150th anniversary of the original Last Stand, Tom George. I knew every man on that list, with the exception of 1959’s Richards. Rick Selden is probably 100%. How many do you know? Back to Stories List
