Welcome: Our brand-spanking-new President, Barlow Buescher, hereinafter known as “BB”, opened the meeting by calling upon Clint Johnson for the Thought for the Day, and Doug Russell, our “newish” City Manager to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Clint’s invocations are always good, but this time the highlight was his explication of “Wrong Way Corrigan.” Clint enlightened us with the story of Douglas Corrigan, a pilot, who wanted to emulate Lindbergh on the long flight list of famous aviators. He took off in 1938 for points west, specifically Long Beach, California, from whence he came, but ended up in Ireland!
SUNSHINE REPORT: Wendy McGowan said all was well in Rotaryville, but Jan Gee noted that Paula Olson just underwent hip replacement surgery. Paula is a real trooper, as she was seen golfing for nine holes at Highlands Golf Course right before the July Rotary on Tap (which was very successful, by the way, even though only 8 golfers came out to enjoy this little gem of a course). The pizza was well received, and all attendees loved the ambiance at this venue, owned and upgraded by Angela and Jack Connelly. Their son Thomas is the manager there.
VOLUNTEERS: BB recognized all of our steadfast volunteers who can mostly remain anonymous, as you all know who they are. BB went out of his way to thank Jennifer Healy and Terry Roarke for stepping up to aid the Setup Crew, which was somewhat depleted today. Phil Eng took the pictures and I’m sure Publisher Greg Horn will pick a few hundred good ones for this bull.
