Perseid Meteor Shower
Perseus’ father was Zeus. Perseus was famous for beheading Medusa – she of the writhing snake hairdo. If you haven’t heard it, Google Ray Wylie Hubbard’s version of Snake Farm; a charming little ditty dealing with snakes. This week we enjoy the Perseid Meteor shower, named for Perseus. If you can catch it through the smoky skies, it is always a wondrous display of “shooting stars.”
Purple Carrots
If that doesn’t float your boat, go grocery shopping at Whole Foods. They have a large selection of purple carrots.
More Groceries - Apples and Grapes
Do you worry that the smoke, ash and soot from the devastating fires will taint the apple and grape crop this year? I worry about that. According to people who know, the apples should be fine, but the grapes may be another story. Very little - <5% - of Washington’s apple crop is GMO. Those should be immune because their cellular structure is independent of what is absorbed through the skin. Grapes are another matter and apparently smoky wine is disgusting. Back to Stories List
