President Pro Tem (PPT) and President-Elect David Swindale opened the meeting right on time, by calling for a moment of silence to commemorate September 11, 2001, on this, the 25th anniversary of that tragic day.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: PPT David called on Steve Saalfeld to deliver his thoughts on this day in history and what it means today. Here is a quick summary of his “lessons learned” for him on that infamous day. Life is uncertain. Make the most of your time with your loved ones. Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Stop seeing differences and seek the shared humanity in others. Seek joy. Laugh too loud. Watch a sunrise. Pick up litter. Crank up the volume when that great song comes on. Draw, paint, dance, sing, write a poem, revel in wonder at the creative human spirit. Send a letter to a loved one. Thank a firefighter. Thank a police officer. Thank a member of the military. Savor more, hurry less. Phone a friend. Practice random acts of kindness.
