Lakewood Key 9/25/26
Big crowd today! Nearly every seat was occupied, with a lot of guests to hear our program from Jim Merritt. Or maybe they came to hear Chris Kimball’s birthday announcement. Or maybe the allure of another meeting led by the inimitable President Buescher was too much to resist. At any rate, it was off and running at 12:30 with nary a wasted moment for the next hour. Eric Warn led us in prayer before Bill Potter brilliantly started off the Pledge with no mistakes. Wendy passed the Sunshine baton to Greg Rediske, who spoke of Dave Coleman, who died on his 82nd birthday last Monday after a long struggle with Parkinsons, dying from cancer.
Dave was a past Rotarian of the Year, and Past President. He was the guiding force behind the completion of the Pavilion Project, successfully navigating many, many meetings. Dave wrote a popular book about essential practices for non-profit boards (BOARD ESSENTIALS, available on Amazon). Dave stepped in a bucket of paint on a club project (cleaned up by Rick Selden), and was serenaded by Ole Magnuson with the song “You Don’t Matter Anymore” (to the tune of “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore”, by Paul Anka and popularized by Buddy Holly) after his year as president was over. 38 years in Lakewood Rotary, all kinds of memories. It’s hard to part with people like this.
